Middletown was chartered as a city in 1797. It is believed that the name originated from "Middle Town" due to the location between the cities of Louisville and Shelbyville. The Wetherby House / Davis Tavern, built in 1796, along with many antique shops & quaint local restaurants, is located in the Historic District. Middletown is also home to Southeast Christian Church, the largest church in the state of Kentucky.
Middletown is popular due to its central location in Metro Louisville's East End with easy access to many amenities such as major shopping and business centers, fine and casual dining, parks and recreation areas, wonderful schools and many churches.
